The Importance Of Skin Care

Flawless makeup begins with healthy clear skin. There are a few simple things that you can do to get your skin healthy and clear. But first it is helpful to understand a little information about the skin and its purpose.

The skin is the largest organ of the body and it has many functions. Some of its main functions are: to regulate our body temperature, to assist the liver and the kidneys to eliminate toxins from within our bodies and to prevent harmful bacteria from entering our bodies.

Because the skin is a living breathing organ just like the other organs in our bodies, the care it requires starts from inside the body with good nutrients.


  1. The first step in achieving healthy skin is eating nutritious food. Eating food that nourishes your body will not only result in healthy skin, it will also help your body to function better.


Fresh, unprocessed, pure unadulterated, simple food is the best for our bodies and skin. These foods include fruit, vegetables, protein, complex carbohydrates and healthy fats.

The less processing of the food the better, these are known as whole foods.  If you are eating whole foods eighty percent of the time, then you are eating a healthy diet and your skin will be the proof of that.

  1. Sufficient rest and relaxation is the second step towards reaching healthy skin status. World health standards recommend 7-8 hours sleep per night. Our bodies perform a myriad of functions while we are sleeping, one of them being cleansing our bodies.


If we get insufficient rest our bodies do not have enough time to expel the toxins inside us and inturn will create a residual toxin build up. This will be evident in the colour and texture of our skin.

  1. The third step towards getting healthy skin is sunshine and fresh air. Without oxygen and sunshine our bodies would just wither up and dry. The air we breath is very important to the condition of our skin, make sure it is fresh and as free of pollutants as possible. The sun supplies us with a crucial component for our bodies – vitamin D. It can be found in some foods, but our main source of vitamin D is produced in our skin from exposing ourselves to UV Light – the sun. Vitamin D encourages calcium absorption and helps to build strong healthy bones.


  1. The most important element in achieving healthy skin is adequate hydration. Water, water and more water is vital to achieving healthy clear skin. Water helps our kidneys and liver by eliminating toxins from our bodies. It also keeps our cells well hydrated, well hydrated cells are vital for clear skin. If our water intake is not adequate the toxins will build up in our bodies and present in our skin, leaving it looking lacklustre and dull.

The cells are what create healthy clear skin and you cannot achieve healthy cells by putting on creams or cleansers. The health status of your cells relies on adequate nutrients from within our bodies. Once you have put the four essentials steps outlined above in place, then you can work towards building and implementing a skin cleansing and moisturising regime. The most expensive or inexpensive products in the world can not help you achieve healthy clear skin without implementing the four essential steps.

  3. Moisturise
